Step 1
Start by finding a suitable container for your kit.  Waterproof plastic baggies work
for convenient travel sizes but for a house full of children you will want something
more substantial like a fishing box or craft box.  Fishing boxes work great
because they have many spaces for different items you may have and most are
waterproof.  If you do use a fishing box, use a new one.  Sterile gauze pads
pre-soaked with old worm juice tend to loose their effectiveness!

Step 2
Everyone will need the basics for standard cuts, bruises & burns.  These must
have items are; Antiseptic wash, bandages, gauze, medical tape, anesthetic
spray/lotion, gauze pads, gloves, antibiotic ointment, scissors, tweezers, burn
ointment & eye wash.

Step 3
What do you need to your personalized your first aid kit?  Your box itself can be
unique, such as a new wood tool box found on ebay or a decorator drawer chest
found at the local dollar store. More importantly the items within your kit must be
personalized for you and your family.  Do you or your family have allergies, heart
problems, diabetes, or other special conditions?  Pack medications specific to
you and your families needs.

Step 4
Store your kit in a clean dry area.  If you take your kit away on a trip be aware of
the local dangers along your trip.  If your going to visit the desert it would
advisable to bring the anti-venom and leave the mosquito spray at home!
Purchasing store bought
first aid kits can be
expensive and include
items you will never use
and lack things you do.
Creating your own first
aid kit insures you will
know what's in it and
where it's at when an
emergency arises!
