Step 1
Most people keep their thermostat around 70deg all day and night and
even when there at work. Get in the habit of turning down your
thermostat 8 to 10 degrees while at work and at night. Better yet
purchase a programmable thermostat for around $30 and have it
automatically done for you. Turning down your thermostat for these extra
17hrs a day will dramatically reduce your bill. (8hr work day+1.5hrs
commute+7.5hrs sleep+17 extra hours per day!)
Step 2
Purchase a comforter or sleep set. You will need this to keep warmer at
night. You will actually sleep better in cooler temperatures and get a
better nights sleep. The hundreds you save on heating bills makes the
purchase an investment that actually makes you money! If you already
have a comforter set get extra blankets. Blankets are cheap, so buy
more than one.
Step 3
Drafts in old windows can mean disaster for heating bills. Seal your old
windows with this old craftsman's secret. Cut strips of an old towel or
sheet one inch wide. Use a puddy knife and push these strips of material
into the cracks around your old windows. Unlike the plastic window kits
you purchase in stores this method won't take off your paint in the spring.
Simple pull out the strips of material in the spring and your window will
open as normal without the embarrassing tape marks! A small crack
around your windows can add up to the amount of draft created by
leaving a window half open all year round!
I saved $360+ on my heating bill and got a brand new luxurious comforter, now you can too! .
